There is so much that goes into wedding planning. Whether you are planning a small, intimate, backyard wedding or an extravagant celebration for 500 of your closest friends, weddings take a lot of planning. So, what is the most important step??? Many of you are probably thinking it’s choosing a wedding date, venue, or dress. Nope, nope, nope. If you have started with any of those you are missing a step.
STEP 1: SET A BUDGET FOR YOUR WEDDING EXPENSES
The first and most important step in wedding planning is setting a budget. Until you set a budget, do not do anything else. Don’t look at all of the amazing local venues we have available. The last thing you want to do is get your heart set on a venue only to realize that you can’t afford it. Don’t go dress shopping. I know, I know. You’ve been waiting your whole life to find choose a wedding gown. Now you’re engaged so you can do that first, right? Nope!!! Figure out your budget first. I promise you’ll thank me later!
How do you go about setting a budget? Sit down with your significant other and figure it out! Just look at this as the first of many opportunities you will have to work together during your marriage. Include in your budget any money that either of you have saved for the wedding. Are parents or grandparents on either side going to be contributing to the budget, or is it all up to you and your future bride/groom? Is your wedding far enough away that you can save additional money to add to the budget? Are you willing to incur debt by taking out a loan or using credit cards to help pay for wedding expenses? Add it all up, and you have a budget for your wedding expenses. Easy! We have included a free printable to help you get it all down.
