Featured Vendor: Music By Mike

What wedding services do you offer?
DJ, Emcee, Lighting, Ceremony sound, Photo booth

How many weddings have you DJ’ed?
A little more than 200

What sets you apart from other wedding DJs?
Other than being 6’7”, I am like most DJs in that I know music and have quality equipment. One thing that sets me apart is that I have an Electrical Engineering background, and have great trouble-shooting skills.   If I do I have a problem, which does happen to everyone, I have always been able to find the issue and fix it or work around it.   I always carry spare equipment, so I have never had a problem that stopped me from being able to perform.

Do you travel?  If so, do you charge travel fees?
Yes, I have performed in 7 states.   I typically do charge a fee if the distance is more than 30 miles to the event.

Do I have to provide you with a playlist?  If not, how do you decide what to play?  Can I share our music likes and dislikes?
A playlist is not required except for the special dances and events like the ceremony music, 1st dance, parent dances, etc…  I provide a couple with my detailed planning guide that asks for all the special music, plus what type of music they want for cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing.   I ask for a few specific must play songs and build from that.  I also ask for any songs, groups, or types of music that they do not want me to play.  When given just a few songs, I will “read” the crowd and also listen to any requests. Not all requests will get played due to the nature of a reception with people of all ages in attendance. I will definitely filter out songs that are not appropriate.

Do you offer different packages?
I don’t really have set packages, except a basic reception which includes one lighting package.   Additional lighting, sound, or photo booth services are added as desired.   I do create discounts as clients add additional lighting and photo booth services.

Can you provide audio services during the ceremony as well?
Absolutely! I can provide music and microphones, or just microphones, and sound if the music is provided by musicians. I can and have provided up to 10 microphone or instrument channels.   My typical ceremony includes prelude music starting about 30 minute prior to the ceremony as guests arrive, music for all ceremony events, and a wireless microphone on the officiant and the groom.   Between these two microphones the bride’s voice is also picked up.

Do you personally DJ all of your weddings?
Yes, I am the only DJ in my company. I never sub events out to another company.   If I am booked I will refer the client to another trusted company.  One of my selling points is, “If you hire Music by Mike, you schedule with me, you plan with me, and I will be the DJ at the ceremony and reception.”
