Dress shopping. One of the most exciting things about the wedding planning process. So let’s dive in.
It’s so important and helpful to have an idea of things you might like when you go dress shopping. It can be overwhelming seeing all the options. It’s also important to decide what style you like and the vibe you’re going for at your wedding. With that being said, don’t be afraid to try on things that aren’t something you initially think you would want. I tried on dresses that were what I thought I wanted, and none of them ended up being my dress.
Let’s talk about what to do when preparing to go dress shopping. I did my hair and put some makeup on so I could get a better idea of how I’d look on my wedding day. I brought with me the earrings we had purchased that I will be wearing for our big day. At the time, I didn’t have my shoes, but if you do, go ahead and bring them! You can wear/bring a strapless bra, but a lot of dresses have cups sewn into them so you don’t need it unless you want it for comfort or extra support. If you want to bring some sort of Spanx or undergarment, feel free to do so.
Your entourage should be people whose opinions you value the most. Some bridal shops will have a limit on how many you can bring. If not, you still don’t want to bring a whole bunch of people because too many opinions can make things harder. I brought my mom, my future mother-in-law, soon to be sister-in-law and my fiancé’s grandma. It was the perfect group!
I chose to go shopping at Madison Town and Country Bridal. Let me start by saying how wonderful my experience was! Everyone I met was amazing, especially Riley. She listened to my wants and found all sorts of gorgeous dresses. She even brought me some which I had never seen or thought to try on, but they fit my tastes so perfectly. One of those dresses is actually the dress I ended up purchasing (I can’t give out any other details about it—surprise for the wedding day!) I had the best time! I highly recommend them!
Now, you’re probably wondering, “how will I know if it’s THE dress?” Let me be the first to tell you that you don’t have to shed tears to know. I’m not knocking that reaction at all, so don’t think that I just know that a lot of times people make you feel like that’s what should happen. I didn’t cry when I decided on mine. But I kept that dress on the longest and didn’t want to take it off. I also knew if I had walked out without the dress, I would have always regretted it. And that’s just how I knew it was the one. We get so caught up in how we think we should feel and the way that others tell us we should feel, that we don’t actually enjoy the experience. Go in and enjoy your day, because it is truly a magical one.
Don’t forget to breathe. Don’t stress too much. Soak it all in. You’ll wanna remember this forever!
